Article processing charges (APCs)

Fossil Record is committed to the open-access model of publishing. This ensures free web access to the results of research and maximum visibility for published papers. However, it requires the author or a supporting institution to pay the costs of the review process, typesetting, web publication, and long-term archiving.

The publication of articles in Fossil Record is generously supported by funding from the Museum für Naturkunde, Berlin. Articles accepted for publication before the funds have been exhausted will be published at no cost to the authors. After the funds have been exhausted, authors may opt to either cover the article processing charges (APCs) according to the table below or wait until the beginning of the next year to publish their article. In general, authors may opt to cover the APCs, especially if these fees are supported by institutions or grants. This will free up publication fee waivers, helping the journal to publish additional valuable research.

Please note that the funds available for publication are limited. If the budget is exhausted at the time of publication, Copernicus Publications will inform the author accordingly.

These article processing charges (APCs) are categorized according to the submitted material and levied for the publication of the final journal paper.
